GIVE B.A.C.C.(Because A Community Cares)
How many times do we hear about the misfortune of others only to spend a moment thinking about how terrible it is and then, quickly dismissing the thought, we continue on with our lives? GIVE B.A.C.C. is an opportunity for every one of us in the community to get involved and help out those who are less fortunate than we are.
Each year we collect food donations from local farmers and businesses, and gift cards from local grocery stores to purchase food to be distributed. We then package all the food into meal bags, snack bags, and kiddie. We also include fresh vegetables and fruit, such as corn, green beans, apples, and peaches. This is for anyone who is need: perhaps a struggling single parent, someone who is unemployed, a senior citizen or someone who has just hit a little bump in the road of life and could use a bit of sunshine to help brighten their day.
We have boxes at both our locations for donations of canned goods, personal hygiene, and first aid needs. We also collect money which will be donated to The York Rescue Mission and York's Helping Hands. Both of these organizations make a valuable contribution to our community.
If you or someone you know is willing to donate food, please contact us at the York location: (717)757-2828. If you wish to make a monetary contribution, you can drop it off at either Buchmyer's Pools location or mail your checks made payable to Buchmyer's Pools, Inc. PLEASE WRITE “GIVE B.A.C.C.” ON THE MEMO LINE OF THE CHECK. (Note: For tax deductible contributions, checks must be made payable to either York's Helping Hand or York Rescue Mission and kindly mail to Buchmyer's Pools at the above address.)

| A Spring Garden Township pool store will give fresh food to those in need. Susie Buchmyer isn't quite sure what will happen Aug. 28, but she hopes some people in need will be able to get fresh food for a meal or two. Earlier this summer, Buchmyer - the co-owner of Buchmyer's Pools - said all the stories about people put out by the recession made her want to do something. The result is Give B.A.C.C. (Because a Community Cares). She has been soliciting donations of fresh food from local farms, orchards and businesses, as well as money and goods for the York Rescue Mission and York Helping Hands for the Homeless. The food donations will be given out Aug. 28, Buchmyer said, to anyone who feels they are in need. "I'm not going to sit in the judgment seat," Buchmyer said. "Maybe it's just a single mother who can't get the dollars to stretch through the week or the senior citizen who barely afford their medication, let alone food." Food will be given out first-come, first-served, Buchmyer said. Any leftovers will be donated to the Rescue Mission and Helping Hands." |
